The term ‘in vitro’ means that the process occurs outside the body in a lab dish. IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) procedure involves combining sperm and eggs outside the body in a laboratory and then transferring the fertilized embryo to the woman’s uterus. This is ideal for blocked fallopian tubes, advanced maternal age, or severe male factor infertility.
At Vansh IVF Clinic, we offer world-class IVF treatment for people struggling with fertility issues.
The IVF process involves several key steps
In the first stage, fertility medications are given to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs(as opposed to a single egg produced during a menstrual cycle). Routine blood tests and ultrasound tests are taken to monitor your hormone levels and to monitor the development of your follicles that produce eggs.
The mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries through a minimally invasive procedure where our doctor uses a thin needle guided by ultrasound through the vagina to extract your eggs from the follicles. The male partner is also required to provide a semen sample on the day of the egg retrieval procedure.
Once we’ve gathered the eggs, the process of fertilization can be done in te following ways:
Depending on you and your partner’s health, additional procedures such as assisted laser hatching and preimplantation genetic testing might also be suggested.
Embryos are cultured in artificial womb or incubators and their growth is seen which is time-dependent. Depending on number of eggs visibility, age of patient, growth patterns, embroys are either transferred on D3 or D5 (Blastocyst stage) in the same cycle of stimulation or can be frozen and transfused in the next cycle, known as frozen embryo transfer.
The prepared sperm and ovum are fertilized under laboratory conditions to form the embryo. An embryologist carefully prepares several embryos, and depending on their quality, they are then transferred into the uterus of the female partner either on the third day or the fifth day of the embryo’s development.
After 12-14 days of embryo transfer, you will be required to take a pregnancy test to check whether the procedure has been successful. The next steps are further planned based on the results.

IVF involves stimulating the ovaries, retrieving eggs, fertilizing them with sperm in a lab, and transferring the resulting embryos to the uterus.
IVF may involve some discomfort and mild pain during procedures like hormone injections and egg retrieval, but it is generally manageable with pain relief options.
IVF typically takes about 4 to 6 weeks from the start of ovarian stimulation to the embryo transfer.
The ideal age for IVF is usually under 35 years, as younger women typically have higher success rates.
In India, the cost of IVF treatment starts from around ₹1,00,000 (excluding medications and tests), depending on several factors such as number of cycles needed, type of stimulation, quality of injections, and more.
The success rate of IVF depends on factors such as maternal age, cause of infertility, sperm, and egg health amongst others. Some couples might become pregnant right after the first IVF cycle while others might take several cycles. In some cases, couples might also be able to conceive naturally after their IVF cycle.
If a patient has to undergo a new round of ovarian stimulation, a gap of a minimum of two months is suggested. In case the patient utilises frozen eggs/embryos preserved from a previous cycle, a gap of one month is also enough.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and managing stress, can positively impact IVF outcomes.
The best time to start IVF is after thorough evaluation and consultation with a fertility specialist, often aligned with the woman’s menstrual cycle.
